Mirror grinding is a grinding method that can achieve the minimum surface roughness. After grinding, the surface roughness Ra of the workpiece is no more than 0.01 micron. Light is like a mirror and can be clearly imaged, so it is called mirror grinding.
The grinding machine for mirror grinding should have the following conditions: high precision, stiffness and vibration reduction measures; The rotation accuracy of grinding wheel spindle is higher than 1 micron; The amplitude of the grinding wheel frame relative to the worktable is less than 1 micron; The transverse feed mechanism can move accurately; There is no crawling phenomenon when the workbench moves at low speed. During mirror grinding, the ceramic bonded grinding wheel with particle size less than 60 shall be used first. After fine trimming, the effective grinding particles on the surface of the grinding wheel form many equal height semi blunt micro edges. During grinding, only fine grinding debris shall be cut off, with appropriate friction polishing effect. The surface roughness reaches Ra0.08 ~ 0.04 microns, which is the stage of ultra precision grinding. Then, the grinding wheel made of micro powder abrasive (W14 ~ W5), resin binder and graphite filler is finely trimmed, and the mirror grinding is carried out under appropriate grinding pressure. After a certain period of friction polishing, the mirror surface with surface roughness Ra no more than 0.01 micron is finally achieved.
The grinding amount of mirror grinding is small. For example, when grinding an outer circle, the grinding wheel speed is 15 ~ 20m / s, the workpiece speed is less than 10m / min, the feed speed of the worktable is 50 ~ 100mm / min, the cross feed grinding depth is 3 ~ 5 microns, and then perform 20 ~ 30 times of smooth grinding without feed. During grinding, the cutting fluid shall be sufficient, and a good filtering device shall be provided to prevent scratching the workpiece surface. Sharp single grain diamond is required for grinding wheel dressing. During dressing, the worktable speed is 6 ~ 10mm / min, the transverse feed is 2 ~ 4 times, the cutting depth is 2 ~ 3 microns each time, and then polished once without feed.
